Experimental Art at Luton Hoo Walled Garden

This project was inspired by the idea of transferring to the outdoors, work designed for white gallery space. A visit to Luton Hoo Walled Garden produced an encounter with Charlotte and Mrs Phillips and the idea that the outdoor site for my work should in fact be their garden. Accordingly, in 2008, Charlotte Phillips invited my metal Peppered Moths to reside in the garden.

Extending this invitation established Experimental Art at Luton Hoo Walled Garden (LHWG), project will be

The walled garden, built by Capability Brown, upon the 3 rd Earl of Bute’s purchase of Luton Hoo Park in 1763, is part of Luton and the UK’s heritage. The octagonal walled garden can be seen from the air, just after take off to the west from Luton Airport.

Experimental Art at LHWG welcomes professional, amateur and school artists wishing to experiment with the relationship between art and garden.

The project intends a broad, cutting edge, inclusive collective drawn from the UK’s creative expertise and standing, as well as from Luton’s cultural diversity and promotes sharing, understanding and the UK’s international outlook.
